Find True Weight Loss for Life with Dr. Page's Five Practical Weight Loss Tips

Weight loss is one of the most frequently discussed topics today. Its hard to miss the many weight loss tips and tricks infiltrating the media. The nightly news is full of stories about the dangers of being overweight. Retail outlets and the Internet both are full of weight loss books and products. Schools, the work place and medical centers are just a few of the places that weight loss is talked about frequently. If, however, you are one of the many thousands of people trying to lose weight, here are five quick tips to get you started.

Tip #1- Talk about weight loss a lot less, and take action a lot more.

Just talking about the weight you want to lose is not going to help you lose it. Action is the best place to start. Try taking this simple yet effective advice. Stop moving your mouth and start moving your body. The results with come quicker than you think.

Tip #2 – Slow and Steady is the Way to Go.

Remember that slow and steady weight loss is safer and more effective than trying to ride the diet roller coaster. About two pounds a week is the perfect goal when searching for a long-lasting, effective and healthy weight loss outcome. Weight loss can only be achieved by eating less calories than you burn off. When you combine diet and exercise, you are giving yourself an additional bonus by reducing your caloric intake and increasing your caloric burn at the same time.

Tip #3- Save, don't spend.

Weight loss fads often steal your hard earned cash and leave you feeling empty and no better off than before. Hypnosis, get skinny quick diets, pills and intense surgical procedures are not the answer to weight loss. Instead of aiding in long term weight loss, these diets and fads often leave you feeling discouraged and unable to maintain any weight you have lost. To encourage true weight loss, try slightly switching up your diet to include fruits, vegetables, lean protein and good fats. This will slim you down faster than any fad diet out there.

Tip #4- Think of weight loss as a way of life.

Weight, unfortunately, becomes something that many people will struggle with their entire lives. Continuing to partake in highly processed foods and living a sedentary lifestyle are often the two biggest contributors to the lifelong weight problem. In order to lose weight and maintain that weight loss, you must begin to change the way you think about food. Food should be considered a fuel for the body, not a passion. Weight loss can only really be successful when you decide to change your entire lifestyle.

Tip #5- Think of weight loss as more than a number on a scale.

When you’re dieting, don’t become a victim of the scale. As numbers go down, happiness seems to increase. But when the numbers stay the same or go up, it is easy to give up and give in. Remember that even if your weight isn’t changing as you would like, your body is. You are keeping your heart healthy. You are lowering your cholesterol levels. You will also be able to enjoy looser fitting clothes in addition to a lean and more fit body. When you learn to find joy in these other benefits, you’ll want to keep up all of that hard work..

Wonderful Summer Weight Loss Tips

Antioxidants and all their added benefits are all the rage today. Antioxidants are known to help neutralize free radicals which cause cell damage, and can ultimately lead to diseases of the heart or even cancer. It seems everywhere you go its blueberry this and blueberry that. You have your choice of wild blueberry juice, blueberry pomegranate juice, blueberry-cranberry juice and so on. In our rush to embrace antioxidants, we have ignored some very important high-antioxidant foods that may already be in our cupboards. When consuming antioxidants here is an essential weight loss tip for you, instead of blueberries try the small red bean.

Why do we need to eat foods that are found to be naturally high in antioxidants? Scientists have found that the body forms unstable oxygen molecules, called free radicals; every cell produces tens of thousands of them each day.

A free radical is basically an atom with an odd number of electrons. Due to their odd number of electrons, free radicals indiscriminately pick up electrons from other atoms, which in turn convert those other atoms into secondary free radicals, thus setting up a chain reaction, which can cause substantial biological damage. Free radicals, in short, are bad. There are also many kinds of free radicals, which we are exposed to everyday, for example, pollution, radiation, cigarette smoke and herbicides.

There are many common foods high in antioxidants and you should not just restrict yourself to one particular food source. Did you know that foods are in different color families and each color contains different types of antioxidants and benefits? Thus the saying "eat your colors!" Peaches and nectarines, belonging in the yellow-orange color family, help offer an immune system boost. The purple-red color family of foods helps to reduce inflammation. To reap the full benefits of antioxidants it is important to eat foods from all color groups.

You can eat food high in antioxidants (by eating them raw, cooking them, or juicing them yourself) without having to pay a high price for unhealthy juices found in many grocery stores.

Be sure to give your blueberries some company at the dinner table tonight. Make sure to invite some beans, spinach, potatoes, or artichoke hearts to your table and enjoy your antioxidants and your weight loss tip of the day!
